This painting is part of a series of works based on the Cheedale walk in the Peak District.
I was absorbed by the peace and quiet of this beautiful valley. The creative energy and emotion I felt comes through in the gestural brushstrokes and layering of colour.
I have always found so much happiness when I am outside in nature, as so many of us have and more so in this last year. I see the natural world as the foundation of my artistic practice. I make sketches, drawing outside, in situ to really experience a place. I even swam in the river. These physical elements underpin my work and this experience in nature materialises into my finished painting.
